October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October 1st is here and I am just so excited for my favorite month of the year to have finally arrived! As we all know, October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the cause is very close to my heart. See that beautiful woman up there in that picture with me? Well, that's my mom who is now a 13 year breast cancer survivor! This picture was taken at our first Race for the Cure together in 2009 when I was a freshman in college and she was on year 9 of being a survivor.
Breast Cancer is one disease that doesn't matter your age, gender, or race...it affects 1 in 8 women and about 2,000 men per year. Encourage yourself and your loved ones to practice breast self exams monthly and help spread the word of early detection. I truly believe someday soon a cure will be found!
